Fun Hair & Scalp Facts

— Because learning about hair should be fun too!

Did You Know?

  • You lose 50–150 hairs a day — and that’s totally normal.

Yes, daily shedding is part of the natural growth cycle! If you’re brushing your hair and noticing strands, don’t panic — unless it becomes excessive, it’s all part of a healthy turnover process.

  • Your scalp has around 100,000 follicles.

And each follicle can produce around 20 individual hairs in its lifetime. Your scalp is busy!

  • Hair is the second fastest-growing tissue in the body.

Right after bone marrow. That’s why proper nutrition plays such a big role in hair health

  • Your hair is technically dead — but your follicles are very much alive.

Hair is made of keratin, a protein that’s not living tissue. But your follicle — the little powerhouse below the surface — is what really needs the love.

  • Scalp health = hair health.

Think of your scalp like soil: if the soil isn’t nourished, the roots won’t thrive. Healthy hair starts at the scalp.

Myth vs. Fact

Myth: Cutting your hair makes it grow faster.

Fact: Cutting doesn’t affect growth from the root — but it does reduce breakage, helping it look fuller, healthier, and preventing more breakage.

Myth: Dandruff means your scalp is dry.

Fact: Most dandruff is actually due to an overgrowth of yeast on an oily scalp — not dryness! Always get a proper diagnosis.

Myth: You can “train” your scalp to produce less oil.

Fact: Your scalp’s oil production is determined by hormones, hydration, not washing habits. Overwashing can make it worse.

Myth: Natural oils can fully replace conditioner.

Fact: Oils sit on the hair; conditioners penetrate into it. Oils are great, but they’re not a one-for-one substitute.

Myth: Stress makes your hair fall out immediately.

Fact: Telogen effluvium (stress-related shedding) usually kicks in about 8–12 weeks after a stressful event — so it’s often delayed and unexpected.

Science Bites

  • Your scalp ages 6 times faster than your facial skin — protect it!

  • A single strand of hair can support up to 100 grams of weight.

  • Hair grows about 0.3–0.5 mm per day, or roughly ½ inch per month.

  • The lifespan of a single hair is usually 2–7 years depending on genetics and health.

Quick Tips for Hair & Scalp Health

Hydration matters! Drinking enough water supports scalp circulation and reduces dryness and itch.

Don’t skip scalp care. Exfoliating once a week can remove buildup and improve absorption of treatments.

Balance your pH. The scalp and hair prefer a pH between 4.5–5.5. Look for pH-balanced shampoos and avoid harsh products.

Protect your hair from heat and friction. Use a heat protectant and opt for silk pillowcases.

Don’t ignore tension. Tight styles can cause breakage and follicle damage — give your follicles a break!
